Most of the Hollywood movies are based on vigilante justice. But our Indian film industry is a little far away from this genre. But there are some Indian filmmakers who have made movies on vigilantism and got a huge success. Tinnu Anand, AR Murgadoss, and S.Shankar are some of the directors best known for their movies on vigilante concept. Here, we have mentioned some top Bollywood films featuring the concept of vigilantism in its glory!

Shahenshah (1988)

‘Shahenshah’ is one of the most iconic Bollywood films of the 80s. It is directed by Tinnu Anand and features Amitabh Bachchan, Meenakshi Shesadri, and Amrish Puri are in lead roles. The story revolves around Vijay, played by Amitabh Bachchan, who is a goofy policeman during days and a ruthless vigilante during nights. Along with the all-time classic liner of Bollywood, “Rishtey mein hum tumhare baap lagtey hai…Naam hai Shahenshah”, this movie has some action sequences and hilarious moments.

Aparichit (2006)

‘Aparichit’ is a Hindi dubbed South Indian movie directed by Shankar, the master to deliver the package of action sequences with a social message. This movie is about Ambi, an innocent man who is suffering from multiple personality disorder. When he sees injustice, his alter ego, called Aparichit who is ruthless, takes over his brain and punishes the corrupted person. The Ambi character was played by the south superstar Vikram and it is one of the path-breaking films in his career.

Shiva Ka Insaaf (1985)

‘Shiva Ka Insaaf’ is one of the earliest movies of Jackie Shroff, directed by Raj N. Sippy. This is also the first 3D film in the Hindi film industry. The story revolves around the life Bhola, whose parents are killed mercilessly and now he wants to take revenge from the killers by taking combat skills training from his father’s friend. This movie is also one of the best and first superhero films in the Indian film industry.

Gabbar Is Back

It is a remake of the 2002 Tamil film ‘Ramanaa’ which is directed by A. R. Murugadoss. The ‘Gabbar is Back’ is directed by Krish featuring Akshay Kumar in the lead role. This movie is one of the blockbusters in 2015. The film’s story is about Aditya, played by Akshay Kumar, a commoner who lost his family due to city’s administration decides to take revenge on all the corrupt officials by disguising himself as a vigilante, Gabbar.

Hindustani

It is another dubbed version of the Tamil film directed by the legendary director Shankar. The film stars Kamal Hasan in a dual role as father and son. This story based on a freedom fighter who lost his daughter because of corrupt hospitals and becomes a vigilante and kills the corrupted officers. He doesn’t even spare his corrupted son. It was the biggest hit in all the languages.
